Garon Park

Sport England Every Move - Case Study

Pictures for the People worked with Sport England to create a documentary highlighting Garon Park, a 200-acre green space in Southend-on-Sea, transformed from neglected land into a thriving sports and wellbeing destination. The film demonstrates how Garron Park CIC engages the local community through accessible recreation, environmental stewardship, and initiatives designed to address health inequalities. Part of Sport England’s Useful Projects series, this piece sits alongside other sports-focused films we’ve produced, showing the role sport and green spaces play in promoting social impact, wellbeing, and participation.

Connecting Communities Through Sport and Nature

The video focuses on the park’s dual approach: sport and leisure activities alongside wellbeing programmes, designed to empower residents, improve mental and physical health, and increase access to green space. Volunteers play a central role, planting thousands of trees, creating hedgerows, and maintaining trails, with the impact of their work highlighted through CO₂ savings, river clean-ups, and biodiversity initiatives. Through observational footage and interviews with staff and participants, the film shows how engaging local people in recreation, environmental action, and community-led projects fosters inclusion, health, and connection to nature. The final documentary serves as inspiration for other organisations looking to combine sport, wellbeing, and environmental responsibility.
