Fulham Reach Boat Club

Sport England Every Move - Case Study

Pictures for the People partnered with Sport England to create a short documentary film highlighting the work of Fulham Reach Boat Club, a sport-for-good charity using rowing and river-based activity to support communities across inner London. The film forms part of Sport England’s Useful Projects series, showcasing organisations that combine physical activity with social impact, environmental action and community engagement. You can also explore other sport-focused projects we’ve delivered to see the ways we help organisations inspire participation and impact.

Using Sport and Environment to Create Social Change

The film focuses on Fulham Reach Boat Club’s three core pillars: youth development for young people from underserved backgrounds, crime reduction through the Boats Not Bars programme, and accessible rowing for disabled participants. Alongside this, the video highlights how climate justice and environmental responsibility are embedded into everything the club does—from river clean-ups and water quality testing to electric coaching boats and open data sharing. Through interviews and observational filming on the river, the piece shows how access to “blue space” helps people become healthier, more confident and more connected to nature and their community. The film was designed to inspire other sports organisations to see how environmental action and inclusive sport can work together.
