Meeting the Innovator

We sat down with Natalie Kerres, founder of SCALED, whose vision is to develop scale‑structured body armour that enhances athlete safety without compromising movement. The film captures her journey from concept to creation and reframes how we think about protective gear in sport.

The project’s objective was to present SCALED’s technical achievement in a way that aligns with the mission of the British Science Association: demonstrating how science and design can challenge assumptions — especially the stereotype that high‑performance protection must limit performance.

Filming involved a guided interview with Natalie, interwoven with visual sequences of her product in action, texture detail, and athlete context. We focused on capturing the dialogue around problem‑solving, materials and ambition, while grounding the visuals in real‑world use.
