University of the Arts
Graduation Showcase Film
Each year, UAL creates a set of films for graduates across its colleges to celebrate their work and achievements. In response to the 2020 pandemic, Pictures for the People worked with UAL to produce a set of virtual showcase films, enabling students, staff, and audiences to engage with the graduating work despite the logistical challenges presented by lockdowns and social distancing. The films cover a range of disciplines, highlighting the creativity, skill, and innovation of students across fashion, design, photography, theatre, and the visual arts. Celebrating Creativity Across Colleges
The virtual showcase films bring the graduates’ work to life through carefully composed visuals, dynamic editing, and clear storytelling. Each film guides viewers through individual student projects and highlights key pieces of work while maintaining the distinctive identity and ethos of each college. By combining close-ups, process shots, and contextual sequences, the films capture not only the finished work but also the effort, imagination, and technical skill behind it. Designed for online audiences, the films offer a celebratory experience that mirrors the excitement of in-person graduate shows. They allow staff, students, friends, and family to experience the scope and quality of UAL’s graduating cohorts, creating an accessible, engaging, and lasting record of achievement. The project reinforces UAL’s reputation as a leading creative institution while demonstrating how thoughtful film production can adapt to challenging circumstances.
