Transport videos - Llanelli to Cardiff
Pictures for the People produced a short social video for Mencap following Gareth as he travels by train from Llanelli to Cardiff with support from a worker. Combining real footage with animation, the film explores Gareth’s lived experience of using public transport as an autistic person, capturing the anxiety, barriers, and decisions that shape how and when he travels. The mixed-media approach helps visualise internal experiences alongside real moments, offering a clear and accessible way to understand the challenges faced by people with a learning disability when navigating transport, while sitting alongside other charity-led stories featured across our work.
Understanding Transport Barriers
The edit centres on Gareth’s reflections around independence, confidence, and accessibility, contrasting the freedom he feels using his electric scooter with the stress of crowded buses and trains. Animation is used to express sensory overload and uncertainty in ways that are difficult to show through live action alone, while Gareth’s voice grounds the story in lived experience. Designed for social sharing, the video supports Mencap’s work to raise awareness of transport accessibility and encourage more inclusive systems that enable people to travel with confidence and dignity.
