About Helena Kardova
Helena Kardová is a journalist and documentary film-maker based in London. She has sailed on a Finish icebreaker to capture the crew dedicated to this peculiar profession, travelled to a remote Japanese village to meet a potter who throws pieces large enough to serve as coffee tables and strapped into a snowboard to follow the head of avalanche safety in a Swiss Alpine town.
Helena is passionate about amplifying unique voices from far-flung outposts as well as closer to home. She studied journalism in Prague, Madrid and London. Her work has been published by The Guardian, Monocle, Konfekt, Agence France-Presse, Deník N, Hospodářské noviny or Respekt magazine. Thanks to Helena’s journalistic background, her films are authentic and insightful.
Before working as an independent director, Helena headed up the film department at Monocle. She has directed and shot branded-content shorts for Adidas, Audi, Chanel, Marriott, Rosewood Hotels, and tourism boards of various cities and countries.
